Set Your Goal Today

It is said that a successful person sets a single goal in life and stop once it has been achieved. Each time a goal is attained; he sets new targets and goes about in his endeavour to achieve the same. One has to be insatiable in the quest for success and learning, as life, clichéd though this may sound, is a never-ending learning curve.

Once you have embarked upon the never-ending journey of life that encompasses 'learning' from a wide spectrum of subjects, the ride slowly but steadily becomes more enjoyable. In this curve, one inevitably stumbles upon new goals and ambitions. But these new goals only serve to enhance the quality of a person's life by infusing into it fresh vigour and zest. Goals make life meaningful and more interesting by adding an element of purpose. A life without purpose is considered a life without direction and hence branded unworthy. You're as good as a zombie, a mere statistic, conceived on the planet to add to the numbers if your existence is as such. On the other hand, if you seek purposeful living; then goals, accompanied by the enjoyable task of setting and planning them is the most vital ingredient in the cauldron of life.

Goals add dimension to a person in every direction, serving to enrich his being by adding more friends, energy, progress and information to the existing knowledge base. They reflect an individual's predisposition and inner desire that stems from the soul. They are a depiction of his natural inclination. The quality of a person can best be gauged from the extent and scope of his ambition as they provide an insight into his thoughts. It is said that in setting goals, it is advisable to nurture an ambition that benefits others as much as it does you. "Selfless oriented goals that show a magnanimity of spirit have a greater power of attainability than self centred goals". But in all this, one has to take cognizance of his own ability or rather his strengths and weaknesses. This allows him to set realistic targets which are attainable in his capacity and which in the long run spurs him toward striving for greater heights. Once smaller, reasonable objectives are accomplished, a formidable base of confidence is built upon which to construct bigger dreams. It is all right to dream BIG and reach for the stars. Anything is attainable if the resolve is there but confidence is perhaps the most essential ingredient in the recipe for success.

So start right away. Do not procrastinate any further if you feel you are living well below your expectations. Procrastination and indiscipline are as much a man's foe as confidence is his refuge. So it follows that the key to living a full life is a sense of discipline and confidence, which can be cultivated through focus, self-belief and adding value to oneself. Writing down of short term and long-term objectives consistent with an honest self-appraisal is an effective way of staying focussed and adding value to yourself. This ensures that reasonable goals are set, further setting the pace for a truly worthy existence. Best of luck then!
