What You Can Learn At Leadership Seminar

Many people believe that most leaders are born with the skills and temperament necessary to take the lead role and that some leaders rose to the top as a result of a leadership vacuum in a crisis. Those people would be surprised to learn that leadership can be taught. In fact, this is the most widely accepted theory of leadership. So, when you see a leadership seminar advertised, don't assume that it teaches natural born leaders the latest improvements in skills or that it will tweak the natural abilities lacking in you.

Employee Satisfaction

One prominent study showed that the single most important predictor of employee satisfaction was trust and confidence in the organization's top leadership. How can such a thing be taught in a leadership seminar? Well, it was found that trust and confidence were based on good communication in just three key areas: communication of the organization's overall business strategy, communication of the employee's role in achieving important business goals and communicating the state of achieving important business goals by both the organization and the employee's own department.

Principles of Leadership

Are you still not sure that you can learn to lead? According to the United States Army, there are ten principles of leadership. That makes for a short leadership seminar. But maybe those principles are beyond your ability. Let's see. Number one is to know your job. You should understand how your own job is done as well as the jobs of those you would lead. There's nothing worse than a boss who dumps a huge load of work on someone while believing that it's a quick, simple task. Number two is to look for responsibility and take responsibility when things go wrong. You don't need a leadership seminar to understand that! Anyone with a few years experience in the workplace has witnessed some low-level manager putting blame on someone even lower down.

Number three is the obvious principle of making solid, timely decisions. A good leadership seminar can teach problem-solving and decision-making. Number four is to set an example. Nobody will follow a dishonest boss who expects honesty or a lazy boss who demands hard work. Number five is to know your people and to look out for them. If you were a leader, would you need a leadership seminar to tell you to care for those who work to make you look good? Number six is about communication again. A good leader keeps his people informed and communicates with his superiors, too.

At number seven is the task of instilling these good character traits in your workers. A good leader is a leadership seminar incarnate. Communication comes in again at number eight. Make sure that your employees understand their tasks, and that they accomplish them successfully. Train your team as a team is principle nine. You know that many departments are just a bunch of individuals. Teams work better. Finally, be sure to use the full potential of your organization. There's your leadership seminar. Ready to lead?
