Dating Tips: Learn How to Overcome the Fear of Commitment

Are you scared stiff of making a commitment? Do you want to overcome your fear?

Some people encounter immense difficulty in overcoming the fear of commitment because it is normally the result of a traumatic incident in life - divorce, separation or even death.

No matter what the underlying cause may be, it is a personal decision to change and learn to confront your fears in order to reap a healthy, loving and lasting relationship. It may take counseling and hard work if your fear is deep-rooted however there are a few simple ways that you can do on your own to banish your fear.

You have to accept that no single person will ever fulfill all of your needs. Be realistic in your expectations of other persons because they are, after all, human beings just like you. Do not expect them to make you happy, because you don't make them happy all of the time right? Nobody is perfect.

Give your partner your full, 100%, undivided attention. If you are really serious of having and maintaining a healthy, loving relationship then you have to give your full attention to your partner and not look around and admire other men or women. You may contend that you are only admiring someone who is nice looking. However, it is an unconscious manifestation that you are also looking for something better or a way out of your current relationship.

It is very likely that you may get into heated argument or debates with your partner, however, you should learn to talk things out based on issues and not on personalities in order to resolve the problem - if there really is a problem. Do not fight with each other. Anger does not resolve the situation, it aggravates it.

Anger brings about negative emotions and drive people away from one another. Negative emotions are the result of lack of control and temperance. Learn to handle your anger or disappointment, step back and learn to evaluate the reasons for your anger and resolve the situation instead of taking it out on your partner.
